Faculty Members of Management Sciences-UW participated and contributed significantly to the 27th Sustainable Development Conference (SDC) themed “From Fragility to Resilience: Enhancing Sustainable Development,” organized by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), held from 04 to 07 November 2024, at Pak-China Friendship Centre, Islamabad. The conference attracted global experts from countries including Bangladesh, Chile, China, Germany, India, Italy, Kenya, Nepal, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Thailand, the UK, and the USA who discussed pathways toward resilience, inclusivity, and sustainability, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Dr. Behrawar Said, Assistant Professor, and Dr. Sania Arif lecturer of Department of Management Sciences, represented the university at a prestigious event on 06 November 2024 and participated in a roundtable session titled “Local Government System in Pakistan: From Challenges to Resilience.” The session focused on SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) and discussed the role of local governance in promoting sustainable development in Pakistan.
Dr. Arif participated in high-profile discussions on the "Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)" for industrial decarbonization (SDG 13), the "Women in Frontline Roles" session promoting women’s empowerment (SDG 5), and the "Annual State of Renewable Energy 2024" session, highlighting the importance of SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) for Pakistan’s energy future. These sessions aligned with global sustainability goals and reinforced the need for inclusive, environmentally conscious progress.
In addition to the insightful sessions, Dr. Arif visited the conference’s Expo, where students showcased innovative projects addressing climate change and advancing SDG 13. The expo highlighted young minds’ creative efforts toward environmental sustainability and social change.
