Chemistry Department, University of Wah (UW) in collaboration with university Environmental Society, organized an informative "Chemistry of Spices and Aroma" event on 13 November 2024. The event aimed to blend creativity and science, fostering a spirit of academic cooperation and environmental responsibility. The event featured a seminar on the Chemistry and Biological Significance of Food, presented by Ms. Irum Jameel, PhD Scholar at UW, who provided an in-depth look into how chemistry influences the food we eat, with a focus on the biological importance of spices and aromas, followed by a lively competition held at UW Sports Ground on the science of spices and aromas.
Prof. Dr. Uzma Ghazanfar, Dean, Basic Sciences, inaugurated the event as a Chief Guest and visited the stalls. Dr. Humaira Razzaq, Chairperson, Chemistry Department; Dr. Mussaart Malik, Chairperson Islamic Studies; Dr. Bilal, Director of Student Affairs (DSA); Engr. Waqas Javed, Ms. Shehla Nazmeen, Deputy Directors, Student Affairs of WEC and UW, other faculty members and students attended the event. Ms. Irum Fatima, Faculty Head of the Environmental Society; Dr. Sana Javaid, Assistant Professor in Chemistry; and Ms. Sabahat Altaf, President of the Society, organized the event and worked tirelessly to ensure its success. Dr. Qazi Ul Hassan, Chairperson, Mathematics Department, and Ms. Naheed Malik, Lecturer in Biosciences, judged the competition. The Environmental Society led a Cleanliness Drive at the end of the day, reinforcing the importance of sustainability.
