360 kW PhotoVoltaic (PV) Solar (Net Metered On-Grid) System
360 kW PhotoVoltaic (PV) Solar (Net Metered On-Grid) System is installed at University of Wah Main campus, constituents Colleges (Wah Engineering College (WEC) and Mashal Degree College (MDC)) and Girls Hostel. All the PV Solar Panels are placed at the rooftops of the University buildings and the optimal solar angle at which all these panels are placed is . The total cost of the 360 kW PV Solar system was around Rs 37 Millions at the time of installation that includes the purchase cost of the solar panels and installation cost of the overall system. This 360 kW PV Solar (Net Metered On-Grid) system fulfills the total Electricity load demand of UW and excessive electricity is dispatched to the main grid free of cost for community support purposes.
Rainwater harvesting (RWH) System
Rainwater harvesting (RWH) System is the collection and storage of rain, rather than allowing it to run off. Rooftop rainwater harvesting is used to provide drinking water, domestic water, water for livestock, water for small irrigation, and a way to replenish groundwater levels. RWH system is installed at UW Library Complex, and the collected water is redirected to the underground tank at the sports field. This water is used for irrigation purposes. The total cost of the RWH system was around Rs 1.55 Millions, which includes the overall cost of the system.
Sustainable Energy Awareness & Community Outreach
UW reaches out to the community to create sustainable energy awareness. The University, as a responsible and looked-up-to component of society, leads by example. Efforts are being made in the following areas:
- Encourage the community to adapt sustainable energy measures.
- Develop Curriculum on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) with Particular Emphasis on Sustainable Energy.
- Encourage Faculty Members & Students to become Master Trainers and Conduct Training of Trainers on ESD for Schools & Colleges.
- Run Awareness Campaigns which have Substantial Impact on Sustainable Energy Usage Behavior.
- Promote Social Entrepreneurship by Providing Low-Cost Clean Sustainable Energy Solutions to Society.
- Support Socio-economic Development of Communities.
