Mechatronics is defined as a multidisciplinary field of engineering that includes a combination of Systems Engineering: Mechanical Engineering, Electric/Electronics Engineering, Control Engineering, and Computer Engineering. A Mechatronics system is, indeed, composed of mechanical parts, electric devices, electronics components, sensors, microcontrollers, hardware and it is operated and controlled under the supervisions and commands that are programmed through suitable software.
Mechatronics is a significant stage in the evolutionary process of modern engineering. The development of computers, microcomputers, embedded systems, smart sensors and the associated information technology has made Mechatronics an essential technological field in the latter part of the twentieth century. In the twenty first century, we are witnessing advances in integrated bio-electromechanical systems, quantum computers, nano and pico systems, smart transportation, intelligent systems etc., that make the future of Mechatronics full of potential and bright possibilities. Engineers and scientists from all walks of life and fields of study can contribute to Mechatronics Engineering. As the engineering and science boundaries become less well defined, students will seek a multi-disciplinary education with a strong design component.
Advances in traditional disciplines fuel the growth of Mechatronics Systems by providing “enabling technologies”, which mostly include:
With the advent of the Fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0), automation is playing a vital role in modern smart technology from fuzzy logic-controlled washing machines to space exploration, mechatronics systems are at the forefront of technological developments. It is a comparatively new perception relating to the design of systems, devices and products aimed at achieving an optimal balance between rudimentary mechanical structure and its overall control.
The department aims to teach and train undergraduate students with the flexibility to choose from a wide spectrum of career choices and contribute to the industry in a variety of roles. The department also aims to develop skills to design and execute different Mechatronics projects and formulate processes and techniques to carry such design problems effectively. Mechatronics Engineering graduates are equipped with the knowledge of different technological domains that include:

Field of Mechatronics engineering mainly deals with the design, implementation and improvement of high-tech products and systems. It is expected that Mechatronics engineers will have better opportunities in industrial world with every passing year. They could find themselves in industry engaged with maintenance and operation of plant equipment such as boilers, compressors, turbines, instrumentation, automation and control of advanced industrial processes using such tools as PLC and microcontroller-based control systems, process simulation for plant alterations, defense and R&D applications, engineering management, or diversity of related extents.
In industry, is currently an increasing demand for technical managers with knowledge in business subjects – so called “Mechatronics Managers”. Mechatronics managers possess the core skills of mechanical engineers and electrical engineers as well as management and business. Their knowledge enables them to solve a wide range of mechanical, electrical and software problems, allowing them to participate in and lead multidisciplinary design teams.
Robotics, Manufacturing, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace, and Medical are just a few of industries that are promoting from developments in the field of Mechatronics. These industries now look for graduates that have a broader engineering contextual including Electronic and Mechanical and IT skills. Graduates of this specialization are expected to secure positions such as Graduate Engineers, Development Engineers and Project Engineers.
