Department of Psychology-UW, with its mission to produce socially responsible graduates committed to community welfare, organized a visit to the Pakistan Thalassemia Welfare Society (PATHWEL) on 22 January 2025. The visit, supervised by Ms. Habiba Shaheen, Lecturer, Department of Psychology, was part of the students' Community Development project and aimed to deepen their understanding of the psychological challenges faced by individuals living with thalassemia. During the visit, students engaged with healthcare professionals and patients, gaining valuable insights into the emotional struggles associated with managing chronic conditions. This interaction underscored the critical role of psychological support in improving the quality of healthcare. The experience highlighted the importance of collaboration between psychology and clinical care to address the multifaceted needs of patients with chronic illnesses. Motivated by their experiences, the students pledged to conduct further research and actively participate in community outreach initiatives to raise awareness and enhance support systems for individuals affected by thalassemia.
