The department has the following laboratories to meet the academic requirements of students and faculty members in addition to research and professional needs of the public and private sector organizations.
Several functional prototypes and actual machine parts are utilized to acquaint the students with the working principles and operation of conventional machine components and mechanical devices. The students can observe and understand several fundamental principles such as governor mechanism, quick return mechanism, chain drive, belt drive etc.
Lab Supervisor: Mr. Faisal MukhtarThis laboratory serves to introduce students to the applied principles of this field as well as provides them a broad practical exposure to bending moment diagrams, shear moment diagrams and understanding about davits etc.
Lab Supervisor: Ms. Maryam ArshadEngineering Statics Laboratory has a varied range of apparatus and demonstration equipment to provide a comprehensive understanding of this branch of mechanical engineering. The students can observe and understand several basic principles such as friction, gears, pulleys, static and dynamic balancing etc.
Lab Supervisor: Mr. Zaryab LalThis facility has turbines, flow devices and test rigs to provide students an opportunity to perform a wide range of experiments and develop a comprehensive understanding of Fluid Mechanics. A subsonic wind tunnel is installed in this laboratory to facilitate students in studying airflow over a variety of models and understand the associated principles of gas dynamics.
Lab Supervisor: Mr. Zaryab LallThis laboratory is well equipped and very important for the basic knowledge about the various compressible airflow equipment, converging diverging nozzle and wind tunnel which facilitates students to carry out experiments independently and enables them to understand the fundaments of gas dynamics.
Lab Supervisor: Mr. Zaryab LallThe heat and mass transfer laboratory is equipped with an array of equipment for students to study heat transfer mechanisms in a variety of heat exchange devices. The laboratory has models of a refrigerator, a dehumidifier, cooling units (ice plants) and an absorption refrigerator that offer a detailed insight into refrigeration and air-conditioning.
Lab Supervisor: Ms. Amna AdilThis laboratory offers the students a broad outlook into the industry. A detailed study of water and fire tube boilers, steam turbines and compressors can be carried out. A variety of tests can be performed at engine test bed such as brake horsepower, specific fuel consumption etc.
Lab Supervisor: Mr. Saeed HassanThis lab is well equipped and very important for basic knowledge about the various instruments which facilitates students to carry our experiments undependably and enables them to understand the fundamentals of various measuring instruments.
Lab Supervisor: Mr. Zaryab LallThe extensive range of equipment installed in Mechanical Vibration laboratory provides students a detailed practical insight into the related subjects. A different range of experiments such as verification of Hook's law, free and forced vibration, damped and un-dammed vibration, tensional oscillations of single and double rotor systems can be performed in this laboratory.
Lab Supervisor: Ms. Maryam ArshadThis laboratory is equipped with a variety of machines such as Lathe machines, drilling machines, shaper machines, milling machines, planner machines, grinding machines etc. There are certain sub shops such as forging shop, woodwork shop, fabrication shop, foundry shop, sheet metal shop etc.
Lab Supervisor:Mr. Muhammad Waqas Mustafa and Mr. Saeed HassanThis lab provides space and required instruments to the students to work on their semester as well as final year projects. Final year projects are assigned in 7th semester, so that students can learn the process involved in designing engineering equipment considering the constraints of material, budget and failure criteria. This lab servers as the storehouse for student’s projects as well.
Lab Supervisor: Mr. Muhammad Azeem and Mr. Muhammad Waqas MustafaThe computer aided design laboratory has 50 high end workstations for instructing students using the latest engineering software. Students receive training on the latest versions of AutoCAD, PTC Creo, ANSYS, MATLAB and other software.
