University of Wah was honored to host a compelling academic session featuring Dr. Azra Meadows, OBE, Honorary Senior Lecturer at University of Glasgow, on 06 May 2025 who delivered a thought-provoking talk titled “Natural Disasters and Rehabilitation of Rural Communities in Pakistan”. In her insightful talk, Dr. Meadows shared deep insights from her extensive work on disaster response and community rehabilitation, particularly focusing on the aftermath of Pakistan’s 2005 earthquake and 2010 floods. She emphasized the importance of community-led recovery, disaster preparedness, emergency housing, and educational initiatives targeting women in affected areas. The talk was highly interactive, with attendees engaging in a lively Q&A session. Students showed particular interest in international scholarships, research collaboration, and exchange opportunities. Dr. Meadows responded with practical advice and encouraged students to pursue global academic experiences to broaden their perspectives and impact.
Following the talk, Dr. Meadows participated in a series of meetings aimed at fostering institutional collaboration. She was welcomed by the Director, ORIC, and held a productive discussion with the Honorable Vice Chancellor, focusing on avenues for joint research, faculty exchange, and future academic partnerships between the University of Wah and the University of Glasgow. Dr. Meadows also visited the UW Lab Complex, accompanied by Dr. Javaid Shabbir and other faculty members, where she took great interest in the university’s research infrastructure and scientific work. A detailed presentation by Director ORIC , attended by all Deans, showcased UW’s academic strengths and ongoing initiatives, further highlighting the potential for future cooperation between the two institutions. The visit concluded with a formal vote of thanks and the presentation of a souvenir shield to Dr. Meadows by the Vice Chancellor, commemorating her valuable contributions and engagement with the UW academic community.
