Dr. Jamil Ahmed Sheikh, Chairperson Sociology Department, delivered a lecture on “Conflict Resolution and Local Justice Systems” at Bahria University, Islamabad on 20 February 2025. The session explored the role of Informal Dispute Resolution Mechanisms (IDRM) in Pakistan and their impact on peace, conflict, and development. Dr. Jamil discussed traditional conflict resolution methods like Jirga, Faislo, and Panchayat, highlighting their benefits and challenges, including bias, exclusion of women, and lack of legal enforcement. He emphasized integrating informal and formal justice systems for sustainable development. Faculty members, researchers, and students attended the lecture and actively participated in an engaging Q&A session. The discussion concluded with insights on governance, legal reforms, and community engagement to enhance dispute resolution mechanisms in Pakistan.
