McDonald's Recruitment Drive

UW Placement -ORIC organized in-campus McDonald's Recruiting Drive on 23 February 2023, to provide a platform to the graduates and alumni of UW and WEC to showcase their talent for the position of "Trainee Managers (Restaurant Operations)". Mr. Farhan Ashraf, Sr. Manager HR; Mr. Shahzad Qamar, Sr. Operations Consultant; Mr. Ahsan Abbas, Restaurant Manager; and Mr. Mumtaz Ali, Assistant Manager HR conducted walk-in interviews and shortlisted the potential candidates for 2nd and 3rd level interviews on the spot. Director ORIC appreciated and thanked McDonald's representatives for their interest in UW students and emphasized the need to strengthen linkages to a new level.

Sky Marketing Recruitment Drive

UW Placement-ORIC organized an in-campus Recruitment Drive, in collaboration with Sky Marketing (Pvt.) Ltd., to recruit graduates for the posts of Business Development Officer, Web Designer, and Content Writer, on 15 December, 2022. Ms. Aqsa Saleem, HR Manager Sky Marketing along with her recruitment team conducted the interviews. 20 alumni from different faculties appeared in the interviews.  After short-listing, 7 candidates were selected for job positions at Sky Marketing Pvt. Ltd.

Entrepreneurship as a Viable Career Option

ORIC, UW, in collaboration with Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA), conducted a training session on Entrepreneurship as a Viable Career Option on 08 September 2022. SMEDA, with a key focus to promote entrepreneurship amongst youth of HEIs, systematically coordinates interactive sessions on business start-ups and management. The purpose of the interactive session at UW was to inculcate entrepreneurship awareness in contemporary scenarios and promote business start-ups in existing SME Value Chains to make them globally competitive. Mr. Ziaullah, CEO, ZMK and Mr. Rafat Ali Khan, CEO, Ajnas were the Guest Speakers. Both the speakers enlightened the audience on the nitty-gritty details of entrepreneurship and motivated the young entrepreneurs to step up with their winning ideas. Mr. Rafat Ali Khan, CEO, Ajnas, lauded the potential of UW students and as an angel investor, provided seed money to one of the students’ groups to start its project. A total of 42 students and alumni from Departments of Management Sciences, Engineering, Physics and Sociology attended the event. Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ahmed, Director ORIC, delivered a note of thanks to the speakers. In the end, all students were presented with certificates of participation by SMEDA.

Training on Start and Improve your Business (SIYB)

ORIC, UW organized a three-day training on Start and Improve your Business (SIYB) from 29-31 July, 2022 in collaboration with International Islamic University, Islamabad. SIYB is a flagship program of International Labor Organization (ILO) and functioning in partnership with Prime Minister Youth Program. Engr. Muhammad Ahsen Mirza, Master Trainer, SIYB along with Engr. Usama Bin Mansoor and Mr. Murad Iqbal, Qualified SIYB Trainers were the resource persons. The Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) program focuses on helping new entrepreneurs to establish and develop small businesses as a strategy for creating better employment opportunities, particularly in emerging economies. 4.5 million start-ups and entrepreneurs have been trained globally in the last 15 years. It offered a wide array of hands-on practical business training in key areas including idea generation, business model formulation, business validation, sales, costing, and financial planning. The trainees were motivated to start their businesses leading to sustainable livelihood and income generating opportunities for long-term financial growth and economic revitalization of their respective communities. Prof. Dr. Jameel Un-Nabi, Vice Chancellor, UW lauded the initiative of providing training to UW students. He acclaimed it as a way forward to finally establishing Business Incubation Center (BIC) at UW, in collaboration with IIUI and CUI, with the HEC seed money. On the closing day of training, Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ahmad, Director, ORIC awarded shields to the trainers. The training proved to be an insightful event which opened new vistas of knowledge and ended with a note of thanks to all participants.
