University of Wah, Islamic Studies Department in collaboration with Suharwardi Naat Foundation Ahlezaoq (SNFAZ), Wah Cantt, organized a seminar on "Islam, Social Media, and Its Impact on Mental Health" on 05 December 2024. The seminar aimed to explore the psychological challenges associated with excessive social media usage and offered an Islamic perspective on ethical engagement with digital platforms. Allama Syed Badiuddin Soharwardi Shah, founder and president of the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada, delivered the keynote speech, highlighting the ethical dimensions of social media use and sharing practical strategies for managing online habits to foster mental well-being. He also gave special attention to guiding teenagers, the demographic most vulnerable to social media’s psychological impacts.
The event included an interactive and engaging Q&A session addressing issues like cyberbullying, digital detox strategies, and the role of parents in guiding youth on social media usage. The scholars offered actionable advice, seamlessly blending Islamic teachings with contemporary mental health strategies. Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi, Vice Chancellor, University of Wah, presented the university shield to Allama Syed Badiuddin Soharwardi Shah and Mr. Masood Iqbal Qazi, Chairman of Suharwardi Naat Foundation Ahlezaoq (SNFAZ), Wah Cantt, in recognition of their valuable contributions. A significant and insightful meeting also took place between the keynote speaker and the Vice Chancellor, reflecting the importance of their collaboration and shared vision for promoting mental health awareness in the light of Islam. The seminar concluded with heartfelt guidance on leveraging technology for good while safeguarding mental health.
