Our Core Services

We welcome our researchers and students from others institutes to use our central facilities.

Molecular Finger Printing of Compounds & Material Characterization
Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy Analysis (Bruker-Platinum-ATR)

FTIR Spectrophotometer equipped with ATR facility offer full sample flexibility and allow measurement in a spectral range of 600 - 4000 cm-1.

Applications

  • Polymer and pharmaceutical
  • Industrial manufacturing
  • Automotive
  • Food and beverages industry
  • Quantification power house use for identification of unknowns and verification of raw materials
  • Quality control or basic entry-level research

Identify, Quantify and Purify the Individual Components of the Mixture
High-Performance Liquid Chromatography Analysis (Sykam-S500)

The Sykam S 500 System Series of HPLC instruments allow configuration of a complete automated HPLC in a “tower-concept” with a small footprint, and a choice of manual control or complete system control by a PC with control software, the S 500 series of instruments allows flexible configuration for a multitude of HPLC applications. The UV detector is available as a one or two-channel detector with high quality optics and optional in-line scanning possibility and an integrated peak detector for preparative applications and control for fraction collectors

Applications

HPLC has the ability to separate, and identify compounds that are present in any sample that can be dissolved in a liquid in trace concentrations as low as parts per trillion. Because of this versatility, HPLC is used in a variety of industrial and scientific applications.

  • Pharmaceutical
  • Environmental
  • Forensics, and chemicals.

1. UV-Vis Spectrophotometer Analysis (AnalytikJena SPECORD-200)

Double-beam spectrophotometer with fixed slit width for simultaneous measurement of sample and reference signal.

Applications

  • Pharmacy
  • Medicine
  • Food control
  • Environment
  • Life science and many other areas
  • Molecular absorption spectroscopy with ultraviolet and visible radiation mainly on liquid samples measured in transmittance or absorbance.
  • Measurements on solid and gaseous samples
  • Qualitative information (like purity of substances, substances identification or binding conditions)
  • Quantitative information (like concentration via endpoint measurement or via kinetic)./li>

Interested in Electrochemistry?

AutoLab Potentiostat/Galvanostat (Autolab/PGSTAT302N)

Autolab/PGSTAT302N is a modular high power potentiostat/galvanostat with a maximum current of 2 A (with BOOSTER20A 20 A) and compliance voltage of 30 V. The PGSTAT302N is the benchmark for high speed digital potentiostat/galvanostat instruments. With a bandwidth of over 1 MHz, the PGSTAT302N can be fitted with all the available Autolab modules, making it not only the fastest but also the most versatile member of the Autolab N series. Analog and digital inputs and outputs for interfacing and controlling external devices are available.

Applications

  • Electrochemical analysis in pharmaceuticals
  • Analytical electrochemistry
  • Battery, fuel cells and super-capacitor
  • Biotechnology
  • Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP)
  • Coating research (organic and inorganic)
  • Conducting polymers and membranes
  • Corrosion prevention/control
  • Dielectric materials
  • Electrocatalysis
  • Electrodeposition
  • Materials analysis and testing

Central Herbarium

The dedicated team members of central herbarium are serving to provide a safe and secure environment for all our collections. To protect our herbarium specimens from loss or damage, we have specifically designed storage and strict specimen handling guidelines. The condition of the collection is monitored, and repairs to specimens are carried out to appropriate conservation standards.

(Watermark Background Picture for herbarium)
Tours

Regular excursion of the herbarium is given to classes and other educational institutions at no cost. These tours focus on how plant specimens are obtained and processed, how an herbarium collection operates, and the importance and uses of herbarium specimens and the information they provide. As space is limited in the herbarium, a group of 20 or fewer is suggested

The UW Central Herbarium provides plant identification to the public. To have a plant identified, please download identification request form and also email us photos and a description of the plant and its growing conditions at centralherbarium@uow.edu.pk .
