Department of Biosciences-UW organized a one-day "Elastic Network Modeling" workshop on 25 September 2024 as part of the department’s ongoing capacity-building activities. Prof. Dr. Shumaila Naz, Chairperson, Department of Biosciences, was the focal person, and Dr. Rabbiah Manzoor Malik, Assistant Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Wah Medical College, was the guest speaker. Participants from various disciplines attended the workshop, including scholars and researchers from Wah Medical College, Capital University of Science & Technology, Islamabad, and University of Wah, fostering an enriching interdisciplinary learning and collaboration environment. Dr. Rabbiah Manzoor Malik provided a comprehensive introduction to Elastic Network Modeling, a powerful computational technique used in biological research. The workshop focused on practical applications of this approach in studying protein dynamics, identifying hot-spot residues, and analyzing large molecular assemblies. Participants engaged in interactive sessions, where they were guided through implementing Elastic Network Models and gained hands-on experience with the technique. The workshop featured a comprehensive exploration of the methodology and its significance in biological research, with Dr. Rabbiah providing detailed insight into the instrumental role of Elastic Network Models in understanding complex biological systems, offering participants valuable new perspectives in the field. The event ended with a Q&A session, during which participants discussed the practical implications of the technique and its relevance to their research. Participants received e-certificates for their dedication and successful completion of the workshop. A commemorative shield was presented to Dr. Rabbiah Manzoor Malik to recognize her valuable contributions to the workshop.
