Department of Biosciences-UW hosted a "Bio Festa" event on 14 November 2023, to promote critical thinking, creativity, and the ever-evolving essence of scientific investigation among students. Two themes were followed for this model competition: Good Health and Well-being (SDG-2) and Life on Land (SDG-15), aligning with UW’s commitment to promoting quality education. Students presented science models and set up various stalls, including an herb corner, a medical camp, and a game corner, to showcase the use of animal models in biomedical research to gain insights into diseases, develop treatments, and evaluate the efficacy of pharmaceuticals. Animal models are also helpful to study ecosystems, biodiversity, and human impacts on habitats. Prof. Dr. Uzma Ghazanfar, Dean of Basic Sciences, was the Chief Guest who commended participants' efforts, presented awards to the top three projects, and emphasized the necessity of perpetuating these events in the future.
