Department of Economics, University of Wah, in collaboration with University of Engineering & Technology (UET), Taxila, organized an enlightening seminar on “Zakah as a Tool for Poverty Alleviation in Pakistan” on 26 December 2024. Dr. Syed Muhammad Abdul Rehman Shah, Assistant Professor at UET Taxila and SECP-certified Shari’ah Advisor, served as the resource person for the seminar. Dr. Shah, drawing from his extensive experience in Islamic finance, discussed the effective utilization of Zakah for poverty alleviation and its alignment with Sustainable Development Goal-1 (No Poverty). Dr. Shah emphasized the role of Zakah as a powerful instrument for poverty alleviation. The discussion also explored how Islamic modes of finance contribute to achieving these goals. The event fostered active participation and intellectual dialogue, offering valuable insights into the role of Islamic finance in sustainable development.
