Webinar on Arsenic in Groundwater of South and Southeast Asia

Directorate of ORIC, University of Wah organized a webinar titled “Arsenic in Groundwater of South and Southeast Asia” on 23 February, 2021. Prof Dr Alan Fryar, Department of Earth and Environment Sciences, University of Kentucky, USA was the resource person. Prof Dr Jameel-Un Nabi, Vice Chancellor University of Wah along with faculty members of UW and WEC attended the webinar. Forty-three participants joined the webinar online. Prof Alan discussed the adverse impact of groundwater contamination with arsenic (As) on human lives and highlighted global areas reported to have arsenic concentrations, particularly in Asian countries. He presented an overview of the As crisis in the Southeast Asian regions where groundwater is contaminated with naturally occurring As and level of contamination is reported to be well above the upper limit (10 µg/L) as given by World Health Organization (WHO). In the end, there was an interactive question answer session. The Vice Chancellor thanked Prof Alan for taking out time for an insightful session. He appreciated ORIC for arranging the webinar.
