University of Wah organized the first of its kind Education Expo in WEC Campus on 16 January, 2020. Prof Dr Aftab Sadiq was the Chief Guest of the event. The Expo was planned to promote awareness regarding various programs offered at UW and its constituent colleges i.e. WEC and MDC. The participants were provided guidance and counselling regarding their future study endeavors followed by a formal visit to Quaid and WEC Campuses to experience infrastructural developments. Various departments of the University displayed stalls along with their Final Year Departmental Projects (FYDPs) for the audience. Representatives of eleven colleges participated in the Expo with great interest and enthusiasm and appreciated the efforts made by the organizers.

Department of Computer Science conducted a workshop titled “WordPress” on 14 January, 2020. WordPress is the most popular blogging system on Web. Mr. Ahmed Hayat, Mobile and Web Developer, TeleNoc was the Guest Speaker for the workshop. He highlighted the salient features of WordPress as an open source of Content Management System (CMS) which allows the users to accommodate dynamic websites and blogs. Participants of the workshop were exposed to the latest tools and techniques of WordPress. Students from different departments of the University keenly participated in the workshop and got fruitful insights.

Eleventh meeting of Board of Advanced Studies and Research (BASR) was held on 08 January, 2020. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor, University of Wah chaired the meeting. The Board considered and endorsed the recommendations of the Faculties of Basic Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering, Management Sciences and Social Sciences & Humanities after incorporating necessary changes. The Board also approved the launch of PhD Program in Department of Economics in Fall 2020.

Department of Computer Science conducted a workshop titled “Introduction to Machine Learning” on 07 January, 2020 to acquaint students with various topics in ML including data analytics and data science techniques. The workshop also aimed at introducing available tools and algorithms helpful in boosting skill set related to ML. Mr Mubashar Nazar, Data Scientist, Pakistan Revenue Automation Pvt. Limited was the Guest Speaker for the workshop. Forty-five students from different departments of the University participated in the workshop.

Department of Computer Science arranged an industrial visit to Nayatel, Islamabad on 01 January, 2020 for practical demonstration of IT related concepts in industry. Mr. Arsalan Atta, Assistant Manager Access Transmission at Nayatel presented a detailed briefing on the implementation of Access Networks and Fiber Optic connectivity along with the equipment/services provided by Nayatel. Mr. Syed Zain Turab, Corporate HR Executive at Nayatel guided students about internship and career opportunities in Corporate Sector. Students from different disciplines of Computer Science participated in the visit.

Department of Computer Science organized a workshop on “Search Engine Optimization” on 01 January, 2020. The workshop aimed at educating the audience on key issues involved in SEO. Mr Shabbir Ahmad, SEO Expert and student of 7th Semester (CS) conducted the workshop and provided handy information on enhancing the quantity and quality of traffic to websites through search engine results. He also highlighted the importance of website design, keywords/phrases and content to make it more attractive and convenient to a search engine. A hands-on practice session was conducted at the end. 55 students from different academic disciplines of the University keenly participated in the workshop.

Department of Computer Science, University of Wah organized a workshop titled “Virtualization and Cloud Computing” on 26 December, 2019. Mr Nisar Ahmed, System Engineer, who has been awarded “Vexpert” from VMware was the guest speaker. The workshop aimed at honing the computer system literacy of the students on diverse topics including data storage, computing power, Cloud/Network virtualization, VMware and VSphere. Mr M Umair, Alumni, UW provided guidelines and motivated the students on how to become a successful entrepreneur. 55 students from different academic disciplines of the University enthusiastically attended the session.

Fine Arts Club, University of Wah organized Annual Inter-faculty Drama Competition on 24 December, 2019. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor University of Wah was the Chief Guest for the event. The dramas were performed by all the five Faculties of University and reflected upon correcting the social evils of the society. Faculty of Engineering secured 1st position while Faculty of Social Sciences won the 2nd position and Faculty of Basic Sciences stood 3rd in the competition. In the end, the Vice Chancellor applauded the efforts of the students for their all-round performance and motivated them to participate efficiently in extra-curricular activities in future.

Computing Society, University of Wah organized Annual TechOn’ 19 on 23-24 December, 2019 to promote IT-related technical skills amongst youth. The event was divided into 5 categories i.e.Speed Programming, Wed Designing, Poster Designing, Pitch an Idea and Scavenger Hunt. Speed Programming Competition was won by HITEC University while the Poster Designing Competition under the theme “Neon Techno Magazine Cover” was won by CIIT, Wah Campus. Web Designing, Pitch an Idea and Scavenger Hunt Competitions were won by University of Wah. In the end, cash prizes and shields were awarded to winners and certificates were given to all the participants. More than 350 students from UW and neighboring educational institutions including WEC, HITEC, CIIT and Virtual University participated whole-heartedly in the event.

Directorate of QA&E organized a refresher training session for Departmental ISO Coordinators of UW on 18 December, 2019. Dr. Muhammad Irfan Khan, CEO, CONSTECH, Pakistan and Mr. Abdul Ghaffar, Sr. Manager Projects, CONSTECH, Pakistan were the resource persons. 65 persons got trained from both academic and administrative departments of UW. The purpose of training was to equip and educate the participants with the requisite skills and knowledge for the upcoming ISO Internal audit of UW. All the trainees took keen interest and participated energetically in the session.
