Prof Asghari Bano from the Department of Biosciences organized a seminar on “Climate Change and Agriculture Sustainability” sponsored by Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) to commemorate the Commission’s 60th Anniversary and 70th Anniversary of the Modern Commonwealth under “A Connected Commonwealth”- the theme chosen for 2019 by Royal Commonwealth Society. Poster presentations on the same theme were also displayed at the occasion. Prof. Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor, University of Wah graced the occasion as chief guest. He lauded the efforts of Prof Asghari Bano, the Commonwealth alumni, for organizing the event and in disseminating mass awareness on protecting natural climate. He also encouraged community on making concerted collaborations to protect natural resources and environment. Dr. Arif Goheer from Ministry of Climate Change and Dr Mushtaq Ahmad, Director, Botanical Garden and National Herbarium, Associate Professor Department of Plant Sciences, Quaid-e-Azam University, were amongst the notable participants. Dr Ghulam Mustafa Mamoor, Professor Emeritus, University of Wah and Dr. Arif Goheer appreciated the support and contribution of the Commonwealth in developing capacities of researchers /scientists through its multiple programs across various sectors in Pakistan. Dr Mushtaq Ahmad delivered the keynote speech on Biodiversity and Conservation of Medicinal Flora collected from different agro ecological zones of Pakistan. Prof Asghari Bano acknowledged the support extended by CSC, UK particularly Ms Kirsty Scott, Senior Alumni Engagement Officer, CSC, UK and British Council in Bangladesh and Pakistan. She also appreciated Mr Hamza Salim Ahmed, Project Manager, Higher Education & Skills, and Mr Towhidur Rahman, Head of Higher Education and Regional Manager, South Asia Commonwealth Scholarship for their support and facilitation in conducting this event.

A joint Declamation Contest 2019 of University of Wah and Wah Engineering College was organized by Debating Clubs-UW & WEC on 26 February 2019 in UW Auditorium as part of co-curricular activities. The contest aimed at honing students’ speaking skills and nurturing their literary taste. The competition included serious and funny debate topics both from Urdu and English languages. The students participated in the contest with keen interest. Department of Mathematics stood first in Urdu declamation while Department of Electrical Engineering was the champion of English Declamation.

Counselling and Placement Directorate (CPD), University of Wah organized one day workshop on “Effective Composition of Statement of Purpose” on 19 February 2019 in UW Auditorium for final year students of Quaid and WEC Campuses. The objective of this workshop was to help students in writing effective personal statements. The workshop was divided in theoretical and practical sessions. The resource person, Ms Ayesha Akbar Awan, Manager International Collaborations, CPD provided valuable guidelines to students regarding the composition of personal statement. In practical session, Ms Nuzhat Nawaz, resource person from Department of English, conducted a hands-on training for the participants. A large number of students attended this interactive workshop.

Latest session of VC interaction with a broad cross section of student body took place on 13 February 2019. Suggestions for better standing of UW in the academic arena and problems faced by the students were discussed with focus on evolving pragmatic solutions. The session lasted for over two hours.

Department of Management Sciences, University of Wah organized a Workshop on “Tools and Techniques for systematic literature review and Smart-PLS” in collaboration with Connecting Asia Sdn. Bhd. Malaysia on 02 February 2019. Prof Mushtaq Ahmad, Dean Management Sciences, University of Wah was the Chief Guest. Dr Imran Qureshi from Malaysian Institute of Industrial Technology, University of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was the trainer for the Workshop. He is also the co-founder and Director of Connecting Asia. Academicians, researchers and students from National and International Institutes of Higher Education participated in the Workshop. These included University of Malaya (UM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), University of Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) Malaysia, University of Wah, SZABIST Islamabad, University of Bonair, NDU, NUML, CUST, Islamic International University Islamabad, COMSATS University, Foundation University and Mashal Degree College. The Workshop provided hands-on experience to the participants. At the end of the Workshop, certificates were distributed amongst the participants and organizers. University souvenir was also presented to the trainer.

University of Wah has been awarded non-commercial FM campus radio license for educational purposes on 31 January, 2019. Dr. Sajid Hussain, Director Media Publications, received the license and signed the terms and conditions at PEMRA Headquarters, Islamabad on behalf of the University of Wah. Mr Saleem Baig, Chairman PEMRA, handed over the license to the University after completion of official protocol.

Mashal Degree College organized Annual Science & Arts Exhibition, 2019 on 09 January, 2019. Students from various classes participated in the Exhibition and showcased more than 100 projects on a wide range of topics pertaining to the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Economics, Commerce, Home Economics and Fine Arts. The projects showed their imagination and ability in the innovative world of science and arts. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor, University of Wah was the chief guest. He took keen interest in the exhibits and appreciated the students for their efforts. He also appreciated the MDC administration for providing the students with a brilliant opportunity to channelize their potential in a productive and efficient way. The exhibition was a huge success and it not only boosted the confidence of the students but also reflected the conducive atmosphere prevalent in the institution.

Board of Advanced Studies and Research (BASR), University Wah, held its eighth periodic meeting on 08 January, 2019. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI (M), Vice Chancellor University of Wah, chaired the meeting. Principal Officers, Deans, Directors and senior faculty members were in attendance. The Board deliberated on the recommendations of the faculties of Basic Sciences, Social Sciences, Management Sciences and Engineering. The Board approved the research topics and GECs of post graduate students. The Board also approved the acceptance of first ever Post-doctoral candidate in Biosciences.

Fine Arts Club, University of Wah organized the Annual Inter-faculty Drama competition on 27 December, 2018. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor, University of Wah was the chief guest. Ms Farzana Minhas and Ms Mehwish Fakhar were the judges. The dramas were performed on different social issues. Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities was the winner of the competition. Faculties of Basic Sciences and Management Sciences shared the second position whereas Faculty of Engineering stood third. In the end the Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the organizers and encouraged the students’ to participate actively in extra-curricular activities.

Counseling and Placement Directorate (CPD), University of Wah organized mass briefings on Exam Anxiety on 19 December, 2018 for all the students of the University. Mr Maaz Ahmed, Department of Psychology, UW was the resource person. He shared valuable information regarding Exam Anxiety and guided the students in how to overcome exam anxiety through techniques and tips. The session ended with an interactive question answer session.
