University of Wah organized its 2nd National Seminar on “Promoting Quality Culture in HEIs” on 10 May 2018. Quality Assurance representatives from over 40 Universities across Pakistan including GIKI, Lahore College for Women University, Khyber Medical University, IIUI, Riphah University, FAST,CUST, COMSATS,PIDE, Bahria University, Air University, KUST, Hazara University participated in the event. The purpose of the event was to identify trends and best practices on promoting Quality Culture in Higher Education Institutions and to strengthen collaboration, networking and capacity building amongst members of the quality family. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor University of Wah was the Chief Guest. Dr Kamran Moosa, CEO, Pakistan Institute of Quality Control (PIQC) and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Irfan Khan, Advisor, Institute of Occupational Safety, Health & Environment (IOSHE) were the guest speakers. The speakers talked about “Metacognition – Learning to Learn” and “Issues and Challenges of Quality in HEIs of Pakistan”. Prof. Khaliq Ur Rehman Shad, SI (M) thanked the guest speakers for a professionally re-invigorating session. He appreciated the organizers for providing a national platform to explore and exchange views on promoting quality culture in Higher Educational Institutions in the country.

Career and Placement Directorate (CPD) was inaugurated by Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor University of Wah on 18 April, 2018. Director CPD, Prof Sajid Hussain welcomed the Vice Chancellor and elaborated on the VC's vision in establishing the Directorate for the benefit of UW family. CPD will provide a platform to students to guide them in formulating and achieving positive personal, educational and career goals through the four offices including Career Counseling, International Collaborations, Placements and Psychological Counseling. Career Counseling will assist the students by providing one-to-one and group counseling, developing soft / employability skills, identifying factors influencing the career development, job search strategies and many more. International Collaborations will provide help in foreign university admissions and international scholarships. Placements Office has been tasked to place students in related industry for employment after graduation. Psychological Counseling unit will assist students/staff of UW by assessing and supporting their psychological well-being as they pursue personal and academic goals. In the end, the Vice Chancellor expressed his appreciation of the efforts made by the event organizers and prayed for the achievement of the envisaged objectives by the CPD.

Directorate of Quality Assurance and Enhancement (QA&E), University of Wah organized an awareness session titled “Promoting Quality Culture” on 18 April, 2018. Brig Khalid Mahmood Anwar, Director QA&E, University of Wah was the resource person. Director QA&E emphasized on the importance of quality in an institution. He stressed on changing the mindset for development of quality culture. In his concluding remarks the Vice Chancellor also highlighted the significance of quality culture and emphasized that quality assurance is everyone’s responsibility and accordingly quality enhancement is directly proportional to every individual’s contribution towards it. At the end, he appreciated the efforts of the organizers to spread the awareness about quality culture and organizing a successful event.

Department of English, University of Wah organized a workshop titled “Scholarly Writing: Conventions, Concerns and Challenges” on 11 April, 2018. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor University of Wah was the chief guest. Mr Akhtar Abbas, Air University was the guest speaker. The purpose of this first ever workshop, arranged for the students, was to promote the significance of academic writing in the world of academics and research. A large number of students attended the theoretical session of the workshop. More than 60 registered students also participated in the hands-on practice session. The session ended with a vote of gratitude to the guest speaker by Prof Mushtaq Ahmed, Dean Social Sciences.

Department of Management Sciences organized the 7th Annual Sales Gala on 17 March, 2018 at Quaid Campus. Begum and Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor, University of Wah were the chief guests. Students from all departments participated actively in the event. Interesting and innovative ideas were exhibited in the stalls. Students also showcased different cultures through cultural stalls including Punjabi, Siraiki, Sindhi, Gilgit Baltistan, Niazi and Pakhtoon. Cultural stalls displayed ethnic products, served traditional food and performed folk dances. Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the organizers.

Debating Club, UW organized Urdu and English Declamation Contest 2018 on 27 February, 2018. A large number of students participated in the competition. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor University of Wah, was the chief guest. Department of English was the winner of Urdu declamation whereas English Declamation was won by Department of Physics. The chief guest appreciated the organizers.

10th Academic Council Meeting of the University of Wah was held on 21 February, 2018 in the Seminar Hall. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI (M), Vice Chancellor University of Wah, chaired the meeting. Deans, Principal Officers, Directors and senior faculty members were in attendance. Multiple decisions were taken including approval of revised course codes, approval of recommendations of 6th BASR and consideration of recommendations of different faculties. In his concluding remarks, the Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of all concerned in achieving rapid academic and infrastructural growth of the University.

Debating Club, University of Wah organized a Bilingual Essay Writing Competition on 20 February, 2018. The contest was organized to promote the culture of academic and creative writing among students. Students from all departments participated in the contest with zeal and fervor.

A high level delegation from Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), visited University of Wah on 23 January, 2018 to inspect the infrastructure of UW Radio Station for independent assessment prior to issue of FM Radio Station license. Prof Sajid Hussain, Director Media Publications gave a presentation to the delegation introducing the University and its constituent colleges and explaining the purpose of Campus Radio Station. After the presentation the delegation visited the Radio Station building and appreciated the work done. They also had a detailed visit of the University. They were appreciative of the progress the University has achieved in a short span of its existence. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor University of Wah, thanked the delegation for their visit and presented the University souvenir.

University of Wah organized a one-day international seminar on ‘Advancement of Research in Physics’ on 02 January, 2018. The seminar was aimed to enhance the awareness among students and researchers regarding recent research trends in the field of Physics. The guest speakers were Dr. Muhammad Zubair, University of Sharjah, UAE and Mr. Muhammad Nauman Kakakhel, Kyungpook National University, South Korea. The speakers’ created awareness among the audience about nuclear energy and the scholarships and funding available to students nationally and internationally. Research and funding opportunities for University of Wah were also discussed. Focal person of the seminar, Prof Uzma Ghazanfar, Dean of Basic Sciences, concluded the discussion of both sessions. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor University of Wah, was the Chief Guest. He thanked the guest speakers and commended the efforts of organizers for such a successful event. He said that the seminar will, hopefully, enhance our individual and collective contributions to meet the energy challenges and cope with the advancement of science and technology in this area. He added that such events are much needed and are of great importance for students and researchers. At the end, the Chief Guest presented shields to the guest speakers.
