Mashal Degree College organized a Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar on 24th October, 2019. The keynote speakers included Dr Sadia Nadeem and Dr Afshan Haroon from Wah Medical College. Both speakers briefed the audience about cancer risks, causes as well as symptoms and emphasized that an early diagnosis is the key to successful treatment. The audience took keen interest in the enlightening session. At the end, the seminar was followed by a QA session.

Counseling and Placement Directorate (CPD) organized a briefing session on “Opportunities for Studying in Tuition Free Universities of Germany” for UW students on 23rd October, 2019. Maj General (R) Shaukat Iqbal, Head of Eurasia and Global Study Experts, resourced the event. He discussed how public universities in Germany are operating tuition-free education and offer world-class degrees to all prospective students. He also apprised the audience about the significance of German language. Students from all academic disciplines attended the session and discussed their queries at the end.

Department of Psychology, University of Wah arranged an interactive activity on 21st October, 2019 under the theme “Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention” on Global Mental Health Day by World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH). The activity aimed at raising awareness regarding suicide as a universal health problem. The students, under the slogan “Say No to Suicide”, displayed banners, pana flex and paintings in University premises to illustrate the significance of mental health for adults as well as young people. They also highlighted the rise in suicide tendency amongst the society and urged the community to promote conversation and discussion on problematic behaviors, that may lead to an ultimate loss.

Counseling and Placement Directorate (CPD) organized one day Alumni Talk as part of Global Undergraduate Semester Exchange Program (Global UGRAD) under The United States Education Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) on 15th October, 2019. The core objective of the talk was to motivate and guide students regarding the importance and application process of the student’s exchange program. The talk was conducted in three sessions. The first session was resourced by Ms. Attiya Urooj, who was the 1st UGARD Alumni of UW. She shed light on the application procedure and highlighted the fruitful outcome for the students under this program. Mr. Tabish Gul, Lecturer, Department of Psychology and also a UGRAD Alumni conducted the second session. While sharing his experience, he emphasized on the importance of community service and academia for a Global UGRAD applicant. A Q&A session was held at the end. Students from both campuses appreciated the efforts of CPD for conducting an informative and interactive session.

An MoU was signed between Nayatel and Counseling and Placement Directorate (CPD), University of Wah (UW) on 8th October, 2019. Mr. Taimur Aziz Bhatti, Vice President, Human Resource and Admin, Nayatel and Prof. Zulfiqar Ahmad, Director ORIC signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions. Senior management and CPD team were also present at the occasion. Mr. Taimur Aziz Bhatti shared the vision of Nayatel and highlighted the significance of telecom sector in global perspective. He shed light on the thriving prospects, which Nayatel can provide to UW graduates in terms of internship and placement. In the end, Prof. Ghulam Mustafa Mamoor, Director, CPD welcomed this collaboration and laid emphasis on its fruitful outcomes for both signatories.

Professor Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor, University of Wah addressed the freshmen on 2nd October 2019 to greet and familiarize the new intake about the various strands of University life. Principal Officers, Deans, Directors and faculty members attended the event. Distinguished alums from Quaid Campus, WEC Campus and MDC Campus shared their valuable experiences with the audience. In his address, the Vice Chancellor touched on major points including Attendance, AVICENNA, Examination, Abstinence from drugs and Political/Sectarian activities, Dress Code, Security and Interpersonal relationships. He congratulated the students for being an addition to the UW Family and encouraged them to make the most of this opportunity. He also motivated students to engage in co/extra-curricular activities and nurture their latent talents. The Vice Chancellor advised the students to befriend The Holy Quran along with Seerat-e-Nabvi and follow Islamic code of conduct. He persuaded them to carry themselves with pride, dignity and humility. In the end, the VC wished the students a successful and rewarding stay at the University. Later on, an interactive Q&A session with students was also carried out.

Department of Biosciences arranged an anti-dengue campaign as per directives of the Government of the Punjab. The campaign was divided into three phases. In the 1st phase, on 28th September, 2019, deltamethrin insecticide was used within Quaid Campus at all potential breeding sites of dengue mosquitoes. In the 2nd phase, an “Anti-Dengue Awareness Walk” took place on 8th October, 2019, which was formally inaugurated by Vice Chancellor, University of Wah, Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M). In its last phase, an awareness Seminar was arranged in UW Auditorium on 9th October, 2019. The Guest Speaker, Dr Atta ul Mohsin Cheema from POFs Hospital, Wah Cantt shared valuable information regarding the causes, symptoms, treatment and preventive measures of Dengue Fever. Dr Muhammad Idrees from Department of Biosciences, UW also shed light on Dengue epidemic and stressed on personal protection and environmental management to ward off dengue. A relevant documentary was also screened on the occasion. Students and faculty of the University keenly participated in the campaign.

University of Wah organized Study UK Week in collaboration with British Council from 23rd-27th September, 2019. The core objective of the event was to create mass awareness to pursue higher education in UK’s renowned institutions in particular and to demonstrate the cultural diversity and assorted fields for studies and job hunt across UK in general. Student ambassadors from University of Wah and Wah Engineering College distributed brochures with key information amongst the participants. The event was keenly attended by a large number of students. At the end, queries with regards to the event were also addressed.

Mr. Inayat ur Rehman, Chairman, Al Islah Center and Prof. Zulfiqar Ahmad, Director, ORIC signed the MoU on their institutions’ behalf. Senior management and CPD team were also present at the occasion. Mr. Inayat ur Rehman shared vision and major objectives of their orphan care organization and apprised the audience about their commitment to carve out positive impact on orphans’ living style. Prof. Ghulam Mustafa Mamoor, Director, CPD extolled the efforts of organization and reiterated UW’s contribution and collaboration for this noble cause. At the end, Mr. Inayat ur Rehman distributed Certificates amongst the students of the Department of Psychology, who recently completed their social/community service activity in Al-Islah Center.

Mashal Degree College organized Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony on 17th September 2019 to acknowledge the achievements of the students for the academic year 2018-2019. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor, University of Wah graced the ceremony as Chief Guest. He distributed awards amongst the successful students and presented Commendation Certificates to faculty members in recognition of their contributions. He lauded the endeavors put forth by the Students and the Faculty members for displaying excellent results and earning laurels for their institution. He also congratulated Ms. Zainab Nadeem for securing 1st position in Humanities group and Ms. Mahnoor Usman for securing 4th position in Pre-Medical Group in HSSC-II FBISE Annual Examination, 2019. He further highlighted Administrative support in infrastructural developments to accelerate academic brilliance at MDC. Kalam-e-Iqbal was also presented on the occasion. At the end, a video clip from the movie “Jinnah to Quaid” was shown to the audience to exhibit Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s views on “Rights for All and Women Empowerment”.
