Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony of UW was held on May 2, 2019 in UW Multi-Purpose Hall to acknowledge the achievements of the students for the academic year 2018-2019. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor, University of Wah, graced the ceremony as chief guest. The ceremony commenced with national anthem followed by verses from Holy Quran. Col. Hafiz Sibghat Ullah, Director Student Affairs, delivered the welcome note and highlighted the significance of extracurricular activities in students’ lives. Vice Chancellor, University of Wah congratulated the high achievers and motivated them to work diligently towards success in academics as well as extracurricular activities. At the end, medals and trophies were distributed among the position holders. The ceremony was attended with great zeal and zest by all students.

Ninth meeting of Board of Advanced Studies and Research (BASR) University of Wah was held on 30 April, 2019 in Seminar Hall, UW. The meeting was chaired by the Vice Chancellor UW, Prof. Khaliq Ur Rehman Shad SI (M). The agenda regarding the graduate programs of the Faculties of Engineering, Social Sciences and Humanities, Computer Science, Management Sciences and Basic Sciences were presented, discussed and approved accordingly, after incorporating various suggestions by the Board members.

Department of Biosciences organized 4th Agro Tech activity on April 29,2019 to boost up students’ interests in the field of agriculture and technology. Prof. Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI (M), Vice Chancellor, University of Wah graced the ceremony as chief guest. He highlighted the importance of such activities and appreciated the students for displaying their interests in managing this agro tech activity. In the end, the activity was evaluated by judges. Department of Statistics secured 1st position with Department of Physics standing in the 2nd position. 3rd position was shared by Department of Biosciences and Department of Mathematics.

Directorate of Student Affairs organized “UW/WEC Magnovita’19”-a first of its kind event on 26th-27th April, 2019. Th event was divided into 44 modules with an array of extra-curricular activities spanning from sports to technical fields. An Auto Car Show and Battle of Bands was also organized for students’ entertainment. A large number of students from 10 universities whole-heartedly participated in the event. Winners and runners-up were awarded cash prizes and shields while all participants were presented appreciation certificates. The main objective behind this event was to promote University of Wah in and around the neighboring zones and attract masses. The event was a huge success since it provided students with a platform to display their artistic, technical and creative skills in an apt manner.

Department of Management Sciences, University of Wah organized one-day Workshop on “Financial Statement Analysis” on March 22, 2019. The Workshop was attended by the students of Finance Specialization related to all academic disciplines of Management Sciences. Dr. Faiza Saleem, Assistant Professor, Department of Management Sciences, University of Wah was the focal person for the Workshop. She provided fruitful insight into the key areas of financial analysis from theoretical as well as practical perspective and offered explanations for multiple financial terminologies. The primary objective of the event was to provide students with a platform that could guide them in internship reports preparation. The Workshop also covered all type of financial statements used for financial ratio analysis which would enable the students to measure corporate performance to assess credit worthiness of a business. The students ardently participated and exchanged their viewpoints in the Workshop.

Prof Asghari Bano from the Department of Biosciences organized a seminar on “Climate Change and Agriculture Sustainability” sponsored by Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) to commemorate the Commission’s 60th Anniversary and 70th Anniversary of the Modern Commonwealth under “A Connected Commonwealth”- the theme chosen for 2019 by Royal Commonwealth Society. Poster presentations on the same theme were also displayed at the occasion. Prof. Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor, University of Wah graced the occasion as chief guest. He lauded the efforts of Prof Asghari Bano, the Commonwealth alumni, for organizing the event and in disseminating mass awareness on protecting natural climate. He also encouraged community on making concerted collaborations to protect natural resources and environment. Dr. Arif Goheer from Ministry of Climate Change and Dr Mushtaq Ahmad, Director, Botanical Garden and National Herbarium, Associate Professor Department of Plant Sciences, Quaid-e-Azam University, were amongst the notable participants. Dr Ghulam Mustafa Mamoor, Professor Emeritus, University of Wah and Dr. Arif Goheer appreciated the support and contribution of the Commonwealth in developing capacities of researchers /scientists through its multiple programs across various sectors in Pakistan. Dr Mushtaq Ahmad delivered the keynote speech on Biodiversity and Conservation of Medicinal Flora collected from different agro ecological zones of Pakistan. Prof Asghari Bano acknowledged the support extended by CSC, UK particularly Ms Kirsty Scott, Senior Alumni Engagement Officer, CSC, UK and British Council in Bangladesh and Pakistan. She also appreciated Mr Hamza Salim Ahmed, Project Manager, Higher Education & Skills, and Mr Towhidur Rahman, Head of Higher Education and Regional Manager, South Asia Commonwealth Scholarship for their support and facilitation in conducting this event.

Fine Arts Club, University of Wah organized 11th Annual Flower Arrangement Competition on 13 March, 2018. Prof. Khaliq Ur Rehman Shad SI (M), Vice Chancellor, University of Wah was the Chief Guest. The Competition was divided in Six (06) categories including Fresh Flower Arrangement, Dry Flower Arrangement, Miniature Gardening, Calligraphy Competition, Sketching Competition and Painting Competition. In the first three (03) categories i.e. Fresh Flower Arrangement, Dry Flower Arrangement and Miniature Gardening, Department of Statistics displayed all-round creative skills and secured 1st position in all, with Department of Management Sciences, Department of English and Department of Economics standing in the 2nd positions respectively. In the category of Calligraphy Competition, Department of Physics secured 1st and 2nd positions while in Sketching Competition, Department of Management Sciences secured 1st position with Department of English standing in the 2nd position. In the last category of Painting Competition, Department of Psychology attained the top two positions. The competition was fervently participated and attended by all the students of the University. At the end, Vice Chancellor, UW addressed the students and faculty and stressed on having co-curricular activities to keep young minds fresh so that they may become responsible citizens of tomorrow.

A joint Declamation Contest 2019 of University of Wah and Wah Engineering College was organized by Debating Clubs-UW & WEC on 26 February 2019 in UW Auditorium as part of co-curricular activities. The contest aimed at honing students’ speaking skills and nurturing their literary taste. The competition included serious and funny debate topics both from Urdu and English languages. The students participated in the contest with keen interest. Department of Mathematics stood first in Urdu declamation while Department of Electrical Engineering was the champion of English Declamation.

Counselling and Placement Directorate (CPD), University of Wah organized one day workshop on “Effective Composition of Statement of Purpose” on 19 February 2019 in UW Auditorium for final year students of Quaid and WEC Campuses. The objective of this workshop was to help students in writing effective personal statements. The workshop was divided in theoretical and practical sessions. The resource person, Ms Ayesha Akbar Awan, Manager International Collaborations, CPD provided valuable guidelines to students regarding the composition of personal statement. In practical session, Ms Nuzhat Nawaz, resource person from Department of English, conducted a hands-on training for the participants. A large number of students attended this interactive workshop.

Latest session of VC interaction with a broad cross section of student body took place on 13 February 2019. Suggestions for better standing of UW in the academic arena and problems faced by the students were discussed with focus on evolving pragmatic solutions. The session lasted for over two hours.
