University of Wah organized a one-day international seminar on ‘Advancement of Research in Physics’ on 02 January, 2018. The seminar was aimed to enhance the awareness among students and researchers regarding recent research trends in the field of Physics. The guest speakers were Dr. Muhammad Zubair, University of Sharjah, UAE and Mr. Muhammad Nauman Kakakhel, Kyungpook National University, South Korea. The speakers’ created awareness among the audience about nuclear energy and the scholarships and funding available to students nationally and internationally. Research and funding opportunities for University of Wah were also discussed. Focal person of the seminar, Prof Uzma Ghazanfar, Dean of Basic Sciences, concluded the discussion of both sessions. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor University of Wah, was the Chief Guest. He thanked the guest speakers and commended the efforts of organizers for such a successful event. He said that the seminar will, hopefully, enhance our individual and collective contributions to meet the energy challenges and cope with the advancement of science and technology in this area. He added that such events are much needed and are of great importance for students and researchers. At the end, the Chief Guest presented shields to the guest speakers.

University of Wah held its 3rd Multi-Disciplinary Student Research Conference (MDSRC-2017), on 27-28 December 2017. The University organized the Conference in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. Prof Razia Sultana, Prof Muhammad Riaz and Prof Muhammad Almas Anjum were amongst the keynote speakers. Dr Gulfraz Ahmed was the chief guest during the inaugural session. He appreciated the University for providing this forum to the young researchers. He welcomed the participants and presenters in the Conference. He also appreciated the efforts made by the University and the Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) in organizing the conference. MDSRC has become a regular annual feature of the University. This conference provides a forum to the young researchers from all over the country to present and share their research work. An overwhelming participation was witnessed from across the country. Young researchers from all over Pakistan presented their researches in multiple sessions. Large number of students from University of Wah attended the conference. In the concluding session, Professor Aftab Sadiq thanked all participants, organizers and the Higher Education Commission for making the Conference a resounding success.

Iqbaliat Society, University of Wah organized National Songs, Essay Writing, Quiz and Poster competitions for Jinnah Day celebrations on 26 December, 2017 in UW Auditorium. The event was organized to commemorate the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Students from all departments of the University enthusiastically participated in the event. A rare pictures’ gallery was also set up which displayed unique photographs of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Twenty four students participated in the Quiz competition. Department of Biosciences secured the first position, whereas Departments of Chemistry and Mathematics stood second and third respectively.

In the National Song Competition, Department of Chemistry stood first, Department of Sociology secured second and Department of Physics secured third position.

Secretary Iqbaliat Society and a student from the Department of Chemistry enlightened the audience about Jinnah’s personality.

The overall event was highly motivational and informative for the students.

University of Wah organized a seminar on Road Safety in collaboration with the National Highway and Motorway Police on 12 December, 2017 in UW Auditorium. SSP Aftab Ahmed Mahsud, Sector Commander M-1 (Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway) was the guest speaker. Senior officials of Motorway Police were also present in the seminar. Principle Officers, Deans, Directors, Chairpersons, faculty and students from multiple departments of University of Wah attended the seminar. Mr Basir Ilyas, Senior Patrolling Officer Motorway Police gave a presentation to the audience. He stated some facts and figures regarding the road accidents. He also placed high emphasis on correct interpretation of signals, road signs, wearing of helmets and seat belts. SSP Aftab Ahmed Mahsud also highlighted the importance of traffic rules and regulations. He emphasized on following these rules for own safety and safety of the others. He instructed the students to never ride the bike without a helmet. At the end of the lectures, there was an interactive question answer session. Prof Aftab Sadiq, Acting Vice Chancellor, University of Wah was the chief guest. In his concluding remarks he thanked the guests for their valuable input. He also placed high emphasis on road safety and advised the students to follow traffic laws. He asked them to refrain from texting while driving. In the end, the Acting Vice Chancellor presented the University souvenir to SSP Motorway Police. SSP Aftab Ahmed Mahsud also presented the Motorway souvenir to the Acting Vice Chancellor.

Department of Management Sciences organized a seminar titled “Cyberspace Management …. Upcoming Opportunities & Challenges” on 06 December, 2017 at UW Auditorium. Mr Ammar Jafri, former Director General and Pioneer Head of NR3C was the guest speaker. He shared his valuable thoughts about the topic. Deans, Directors, Principle Officers, Chairpersons, Faculty members and students of UW attended the seminar. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor University of Wah was the chief guest. He said that the challenges and disadvantages of the cyberspace are likely to surpass the opportunities if not used carefully. Therefore he advised the audience to be vigilant and cautious while using the facility. In the end he thanked the guest speaker and appreciated the organizers. He also presented the University souvenir to the guest speaker

Fine Arts Club, University of Wah organized the 3rd Interdepartmental Qiraat and Naat Competion on 05 December, 2017 in UW Auditorium. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor University of Wah was the chief guest on the occasion. The judges of the competition were Qari Muhammad Rafique, Qari Muhammad Arif Qadri and Qariya Bushra Khanum. Students from all departments actively participated in the competition. In Qiraat competition, Department of Management Sciences secured first position, whereas Departments of Physics and Mathematics secured second and third positions respectively. Department of Biosciences was the winner of Naat competition whereas Department of Management Sciences secured second and Department of Mechanical Engineering secured third position.

An MoU was signed between University of Wah and Jamila Sultana Foundation (JSF) on 28 November, 2017 in Seminar Hall-UW. Col Tauqir Abbas (Retd.), Director Jamila Sultana Foundation and Brig Rao Jamil Asghar (Retd.), Registrar University of Wah signed the MoU on their institutions’ behalf. Senior management and faculty members from UW were also present at the occasion. Col Tauqir Abbas (Retd.) introduced the JSF and explained its major objectives. He told the audience that JSF is devoted to combat Thalassemia as National Cause. He proposed that a screening process needs to be introduced to ensure prevention of Thalassemia. University of Wah will extend support to patients and ensure blood donation camps in regular intervals. Both the institutions are collaborating with each other to achieve their common objective of fostering prevention and awareness of this disease among the students. JSF Blood Bank will also meet the blood requirements of the regular donors and their extended families in case of emergencies. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor University of Wah appreciated the efforts of JSF and extended full support of the University of Wah for the noble cause. He directed Directorate of Students’ Affairs to create awareness among student body through Social Services Club of University of Wah.

Chairman POFs Board and Board of Governors, University of Wah, Lt. Gen. Umar Farooq Durrani HI (M) inaugurated the newly constructed Boys’ Hostel on 23 November, 2017. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Khaliq Ur Rehman Shad, senior POF officials, senior members of faculty and administration of the University were present at the occasion. The Boys’ Hostel can accommodate 315 students and 12 faculty members. The hostel provides safe and secure environment and comfortable living at an affordable cost. Among other services, the Hostel also provides Gymnasium, Library, Television Room, Prayer Hall facilities to the students. Chairman POFs Board and Board of Governors, University of Wah visited the facility and appreciated the efforts of the University management in making the students’ stay hygienic, homely and comfortable.

A sub-committee of Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) visited University of Wah on 20 November, 2017. The purpose of the visit was to check and evaluate academic programs of Departments of Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering and BS Accounting & Finance being run in University of Wah. The team members included Prof Dr Khaleeq ur Rehman, Ex-Vice Chancellor, GCU, Lahore; Ms Zia Batool, Director General HT&FD; Prof Dr Faiz ul Hasan, Ex Vice Chancellor, University of Education Lahore; Mr Muhammad Luqman, Director Admin, PHEC; and Dr Syed Shahbaz Hussain, Director Accreditation, PHEC.

Prof Aftab Sadiq, Principal WEC briefed the team. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor University of Wah and other senior officials of the University attended the briefing. The team visited the Departments of Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Management Sciences. The team showed their satisfaction and appreciated the efforts done by the University in imparting quality education.

Mashal Degree College, in collaboration with Wah Medical College, organized a seminar on “Breast Cancer Awareness” on 07 November, 2017 at UW Auditorium. Dr Afshan Haroon, Registrar POFs Hospital, Dr Sadia Nadeem and Dr Ambreen Ansar were the guest speakers for the event. The speakers divulged at length on facts and figures about breast cancer risks, causes, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment. Female faculty and students from University of Wah attended the lecture in large number. Seminar was followed by an interactive question answer session.
