Mashal Degree College, in collaboration with Wah Medical College, organized a seminar on “Breast Cancer Awareness” on 07 November, 2017 at UW Auditorium. Dr Afshan Haroon, Registrar POFs Hospital, Dr Sadia Nadeem and Dr Ambreen Ansar were the guest speakers for the event. The speakers divulged at length on facts and figures about breast cancer risks, causes, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment. Female faculty and students from University of Wah attended the lecture in large number. Seminar was followed by an interactive question answer session.

Sixth convocation of University of Wah was held on 2 November, 2017. His Excellency Mr. Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana, Governor of the Punjab and Chancellor University of Wah was the Chief Guest on the occasion. A total of 350 graduates were awarded under-graduate and graduate degrees in the disciplines of Engineering, Basic Sciences, Computer Sciences, Management Sciences and Social Sciences & Humanities. 35 high achievers were awarded medals and Distinguished Student’s Award in their respective faculties. A large number of parents of graduating students and community representatives attended the convocation ceremony. Governor of the Punjab congratulated the graduating students in general and the award winners in particular. He also appreciated the efforts of the University in striving towards bringing positive shift in the society coupled with the changes that innovation brings. He also acknowledged the focused approach of the University towards knowledge economy and the efforts of the University in organizing an impressive and flawless ceremony. Vice Chancellor University of Wah, Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), highlighted the salient achievements of the University since its inception. He apprised the gathering about the increasing intake and infrastructural up-gradations and enhancements. He also highlighted that the University of Wah is committed to a value based integrated educational philosophy and aims to develop socially responsible generation of professionals, researchers and leaders for the nation. The Vice Chancellor thanked the Chief Guest and guests for their presence at the Convocation. He also advised the graduates to exploit on the foundations laid by the University and participate in the progress and development of the country wholeheartedly. The Chief Guest and the Vice Chancellor also extended their felicitations to the graduates and their parents and wished them good luck for future.

Department of Education, University of Wah organized a five day training workshop titled “Enhancing Research Competency of Social Sciences Faculty” under USAID, Pakistan. Thirty participants from various universities of Islamabad, Southern and Central Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa attended the workshop with the aim of developing research caliber and promoting research culture in their respective universities. The resource persons for the workshop were Dr. Nasrullah, Dr Syed Tanveer Hussain Shah, Dr Sadaf Zamir Ahmed, Dr Sajid Ali Yousuf Zai, Dr Kamal Ahmed Soomro, Dr Afshan Huma, Prof Zulfiqar and Prof Uzma Ghazanfar. The interactive sessions provided an extraordinary learning opportunity for faculty and research scholars. The resource persons shared their knowledge and experiences with the participants. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor, University of Wah was chief guest at the closing ceremony. He appreciated the organizing team for their efforts for a successful event. He thanked USAID for funding a very useful workshop for professional development of faculty of Social Sciences. In the end he distributed shields among the resource persons and certificates among the participants.

In order to formalize the office bearers of Students’ Council and students’ Clubs/Societies for the academic year 2017-2018, an Investiture Ceremony for Quaid Campus was held in the Seminar Hall, University of Wah on 19 October, 2017. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor University of Wah was the chief guest. Dr Imran Rais, Deputy Director Students’ Affairs welcomed the audience and apprised them about the events held in the previous year. Prof Sajid Hussain, Director Students’ Affairs thanked the Vice Chancellor and other key staff of the University for their persistent support. After the presentation the Vice Chancellor decorated the newly sworn students with sashes and arm bands. During his address, the Vice Chancellor advised the office bearers to be honest to their offices as their peers and juniors will look up to them as role models. He highlighted the importance of student bodies and their functions. He congratulated the students and wished them good luck. The ceremony ended with group photographs of the students and the faculty incharges with the Vice Chancellor.

Directorate of Quality Assurance & Enhancement, University of Wah, successfully conducted two training sessions during 19-21 September and 11-13 October, 2017 to train the ISO Coordinators of academic and administrative departments of the University. The closing ceremony of the training session was held on 25 October, 2017, in the UW Seminar Hall. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor of University of Wah, was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr Muhammad Irfan Khan, CEO Constech Pakistan, Principle Officers, Deans, Directors, Chairpersons and the trainees attended the ceremony. In the end the Vice Chancellor distributed certificates among successful trainees.

Mashal Degree College organized a Science and Arts Exhibition on 12 October, 2017. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor University of Wah was the chief guest. Students from all departments of the College wholeheartedly participated in this first of its kind exhibition. Total eighty projects including working models were displayed. The exhibition highlighted the talents and expertise of the students. Vice Chancellor, University of Wah appreciated the participants. He encouraged the students to participate actively in these kinds of activities to enhance their talent, skills and potential. He congratulated the College administration on arrangement of a successful maiden Science and Arts Exhibition.

9th meeting of Board of Governors of University of Wah was held on 10 October, 2017 at Seminar Hall-UW. Lt Gen Umar Farooq Durrani HI (M), Chairman POFs Board and Chairman Board of Governors, University of Wah, presided over the meeting. Prof Khaliq Ur Rehman Shad SI (M), Vice Chancellor University of Wah, senior POF officials and administration of the University were also present on the occasion. Multiple academic, financial and administrative decisions including the appointments of Deans, launch of certain programs, budget for the fiscal year, selection of members for different boards and many more were taken by the Board. Lt Gen Umar Farooq Durrani HI(M), Chairman POFs Board appreciated the efforts and vision of the University management in materializing and developing University’s infrastructure. He also showed satisfaction about the pace at which the University is progressing. He admired the focused directional approach and endeavors made by the management and faculty in bringing success to the institution. He praised the rapid advancement of academic programs and progression in infrastructural expansions. He also put emphasis on further improvement of academic programs and infrastructural developments.

An Accreditation Inspection Committee from National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC) visited Department of Computer Science on 09 October, 2017 for accreditation of Computer Science program of intake batch 2013 and onward. The two team member included: 

• Prof Dr. Zulfiqar Habibi, Chairperson Department of Computer Sciences, CIIT, Lahore 

• Asst Prof Dr. Sajid Iqbal, CIIT, Islamabad 

The team was appreciative of the efforts done by the faculty of Computer Sciences to maintain the standards of education. The decision regarding accreditation will be soon communicated.

Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor, University of Wah, addressed the freshmen on 04 October, 2017. Principal Officers, Deans, Directors, faculty members and freshmen were present at the event. Two alumni shared their experiences at the University and advised the new intake to manage their time well. Vice Chancellor welcomed the “lucky freshmen” on being admitted to this prestigious university. He informed the students about the financial support schemes including Qarz-e-Hasna and need and merit based scholarships. He also highlighted the importance of following rules and regulations. Vice Chancellor emphasized on the need for vigilance for security of the campus and hostels. He encouraged the students to take active part in extra and co-curricular activities. He elaborated on the important parameters of the semester GPA and Cumulative GPA. He reiterated that use of unfair means during exams and involvement in political and sectarian activities are strictly forbidden in the University. He instructed the students to carry themselves with pride, dignity and humbleness. He accentuated the need of following Seerat-e-Nabvi. After the address, the Vice Chancellor invited questions from the students. He prayed for their academic success at the University.

Lt Gen Umar Farooq Durrani, HI (M), Chairman Board of Governors, University of Wah, visited UW on 03 October, 2017. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI (M), Vice Chancellor, University of Wah, briefed the Chairman about the current pace of progress of the University. Senior management and PhD faculty were present on the occasion. The Vice Chancellor apprised the Chairman about the functioning of the University. He also narrated the developments and achievement of UW and briefed the Chairman regarding the challenges faced by the University. After the briefing the Chairman visited multiple facilities of the University. He also interacted with the students and planted a tree in the vicinity of Library Complex. The Chairman appreciated the pace with which the University is progressing. The Vice Chancellor presented the University shield to the Chairman.
