Eleventh Academic Council Meeting of the University of Wah was held on 12 September, 2018. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI (M), Vice Chancellor University of Wah, chaired the meeting. Principal Officers, Deans, Directors and senior faculty members attended the meeting.

The Vice Chancellor gave a brief account of major achievements and arisings in the University since the last Academic Council Meeting including launch of Campus FM radio station, acquisition of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System certification and successful conduct of the fourth Multi-disciplinary Student Research International Conference 2018. He also gratefully acknowledged the gift of high precision research equipment for Department of Biosciences from Alexander Von Humboldt (AVH) Foundation, Germany.

Multiple decisions were taken including regularization of anticipatory approvals, recommendations of 7th Board of Advanced Studies and Research (BASR), recommendations of Faculty of Engineering and launch of Advanced Diploma in Clinical Psychology.

In his concluding remarks, the Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of all concerned in achieving rapid academic and infrastructural growth of the University.

Alexander Von Humboldt (AVH) Foundation, Germany donated a high precision equipment for High-performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) worth Rs. 6,000,000/- to UW Lab Complex, University of Wah. Mr. Burghard Brinksmeier, Head of the Press & Cultural Section, German Embassy, Islamabad handed over the equipment to AVH alumni Prof Asghari Bano, University of Wah on 05 September, 2018. HPLC is a powerful tool for analyses of natural products and bioactive metabolites. It is a very sensitive equipment used in Biology and Chemistry. UW Lab Complex provides a world-class research hub equipped with latest high-tech research equipment to MS and PhD scholars pertaining to Basic Sciences.

Mr Burghard Brinksmeier appreciated Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor, University of Wah for establishing advanced research culture using sophisticated equipment like HPLC and hoped that the maintenance and training of the HPLC will be effectively accomplished under the control of University.

Lt Gen Sadiq Ali HI (M), Chairman POF Board, visited University of Wah on 28 August, 2018. He was received by Prof. Khaliq Ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor of the University who introduced him to the management and senior faculty. He apprised the Chairman about the functioning of the University, developments taken place in recent past, its achievements and goals set for future. He also briefed the Chairman regarding the challenges faced by the University. The Chairman appreciated the pace with which the University is progressing and assured of his full support and patronage. After the briefing, the Chairman electronically inaugurated the campus Radio Station, “University of Wah FM 101.8”. Senior POF officials were also present at the occasion. The Radio Station was conceived essentially to reach out to people living in Wah and surroundings. This non-commercial Campus Radio Station will broadcast educational programs, raise civic sense, increase social awareness and educate the audience about their social responsibilities. This forum will be also available to the POF’s for airing awareness / social programs. Chairman POFs Board visited the radio station and appreciated the efforts of the University management in fulfilling their civic responsibility. Chairman POFs also visited other multiple facilities of the University and planted a tree in the vicinity of Library Complex to commence 2018 Plantation Campaign. In the end, the Vice Chancellor presented the University memento to the worthy Chairman

University of Wah celebrated Monsoon 2018 in Quaid Campus. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor, University of Wah planted a sapling to inaugurate the event. Principals of constituent colleges and Deans of University also planted saplings. The event was celebrated to make Pakistan green.

Directorate of QA&E, University of Wah organized a one-day training session titled “Preparation of Self-Assessment Reports (SARs)” on 18 July, 2018. Ms Fareena Iqbal, Director, QEC, PIDE, Islamabad was the resource person. The purpose of the training was to train Program Team (PT) Members and create awareness amongst the participants about the significance of the 2nd Cycle of Self-Assessment Process. The session also included training on how to write the SARs for different academic programs. Certificates were distributed among the participants. A team from National Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (NACTE) visited Department of Education, University of Wah on 12 July, 2018 for accreditation of MS Education program of the University. The team comprised of Prof Irshad Ahmad Farrukh, Secretary NACTE; Ms Uzma Shakoor, Senior Research Officer and Dr Naveed Sultana Chairperson, Department of Secondary Education, AIOU. NACTE team members appreciated the quality and efforts made by the faculty members of the Department of Education to impart quality education to students.

University of Wah signed a contract for the establishment of FM Campus Radio Station with SUNO FM Radio NW on 12 July, 2018. UW FM Campus Radio Station will air educational programs and provide a forum to the students and faculty of UW to hone their mass communication skills. Prof Sajid Hussain, Director Media Publications presented the history of the project and achievement of salient milestones. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor, University of Wah thanked the SUNO FM Radio NW team and appreciated the efforts of all concerned and prayed for early success of the project.

Ceremony for the “Award of ISO-9001:2015 Certificate to University of Wah” was held at UW on 04 July 2018. Prof Khaliq Ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor, University of Wah was the Chief Guest of the Ceremony. Principle Officers, Deans, Directors, Chairpersons, Internal Auditors and Departmental ISO-Coordinators attended the ceremony. Dr Muhammad Irfan Khan and Mr Abdul Ghaffar, representatives CONSTEC, presented the ISO-9001:2015 Certificate to the Vice Chancellor. The Internal Auditors were also awarded certificates in the ceremony. At the end, the Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of all those who have been involved in obtaining the award and congratulated them on this achievement

Counseling and Placement Directorate (CPD), University of Wah, organized mass career briefing for the outgoing final year students of Quaid and WEC campuses. In his introductory remarks, Prof Sajid Husain, Director General CPD, University of Wah, introduced the newly established Directorate to the audience and explained the purpose behind its establishment. He also elaborated on the scope of the Directorate and the available consultancy services. The resource persons for the sessions were Dr Zulfiqar Ahmed, Director ORIC and Dr Waqas Hassan, Manager Career Counseling. The resource persons briefed the students on Career Counseling and Job Placements. There was an interactive question-answer session at the end of each briefing. The students greatly appreciated the University management for its initiative in establishing this vital service for the UW family. In the end, Director General CPD encouraged the students to seek counseling services of CPD. He also appreciated the efforts of the organizers for organizing a successful event.

University of Wah organized its 2nd National Seminar on “Promoting Quality Culture in HEIs” on 10 May 2018. Quality Assurance representatives from over 40 Universities across Pakistan including GIKI, Lahore College for Women University, Khyber Medical University, IIUI, Riphah University, FAST,CUST, COMSATS,PIDE, Bahria University, Air University, KUST, Hazara University participated in the event. The purpose of the event was to identify trends and best practices on promoting Quality Culture in Higher Education Institutions and to strengthen collaboration, networking and capacity building amongst members of the quality family. Prof Khaliq ur Rehman Shad SI(M), Vice Chancellor University of Wah was the Chief Guest. Dr Kamran Moosa, CEO, Pakistan Institute of Quality Control (PIQC) and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Irfan Khan, Advisor, Institute of Occupational Safety, Health & Environment (IOSHE) were the guest speakers. The speakers talked about “Metacognition – Learning to Learn” and “Issues and Challenges of Quality in HEIs of Pakistan”. Prof. Khaliq Ur Rehman Shad, SI (M) thanked the guest speakers for a professionally re-invigorating session. He appreciated the organizers for providing a national platform to explore and exchange views on promoting quality culture in Higher Educational Institutions in the country.
